The way they use it is nearly always negative. It makes me feel really low and horrible and, quite frankly, it hurts my feelings.

Now, there are 3 types of people I have come across.

One type will use it regardless, or roll their eyes up when they see me and emphasise the "STANI" in pakistani when I am around, just to prove they've said it right, and then the group they are in will subsequently laugh.

The second type agrees with me to an extent. Their argument goes something like this; "Yeah! No-one should be allowed to say 'paki'! Only we (pakistanis) can say paki!"

I tell them that I don't really see the difference between a word coined for use only by a particular race, and all-white water fountains in America back in the pre-civil rights days.

The third type says, "I only use paki for those longsight (good for nothing, bad boy wannabe, high on weed) pakis, not for normal pakis."

Is this the type of instance that Surat Al-Hujuraat, verse 11 also refers too?

الْكِبْرُ بَطَرُ الْحَقِّ وَغَمْصُ النَّاس

"Arrogance is refusing the truth and belittling people."

Does the above hadith also apply?

Jzk!

Wa'laykum assalaamAyeshahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00785321189360145387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9417913.post-1173695576829650222007-03-12T11:32:00.000Z2007-03-12T11:32:00.000ZSorry ARG but just because you haven't noticed it,...Sorry ARG but just because you haven't noticed it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You only have to look at the recent Blair-Saudi-Defence deal fiasco or the current biased anti-terrorism laws to appreciate the extreme ends of this "non-existent" corruption.

I have a civil servant friend who is currently fighting the government on sacking charges, which were concocted after he voiced concerns about racism and corruption that were prevalent throughout his entire department.

“Surely ethics are an essential part of being a Muslim, and what is apparent in society influences that.”
This is true.

“havn't noticed it, not do I think does the average Joe in the street.”
The average Joe in the street doesn’t see or appreciate many things, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist – nor does it mean that we settle for “average Joe” as an indicator to determine otherwise.

AE, interesting article…although you have missed out issues of hadith pertaining to living in the lands of non-believers when they are at a state of war or at war with a Muslim nation/people.Nonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11945528662947576580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9417913.post-1173646233311798582007-03-11T21:50:00.000Z2007-03-11T21:50:00.000ZIt is wholly incorrect to argue against the benefi...It is wholly incorrect to argue against the benefits of making Hijrah to a Muslim country because of illegal bribery, corruption, inefficiency and lower modern standards. Indeed those who live in the non-Muslim lands who know anything about how Governmental agencies and departments work will recognise that all the above occurs here too – but just in a more subtle form and indeed “legalised.”
.....errr you lost me there. It must be so "subltle" 'cause I havn't noticed it, not do I think does the average Joe in the street.
Surely here the point is the public face of morality?
And why exactly have the ethics that predominate in a society got nothing to do with hijra? Surely ethics are an essential part of being a Muslim, and what is apparent in society influences that.ARGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16861436384368025668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9417913.post-1173604161845398772007-03-11T09:09:00.000Z2007-03-11T09:09:00.000Zsalamwalakumfound this post really informative esp...salamwalakum

found this post really informative especially since i was looking for information on the hijrah topic..
jazakÁllah khair

May Allah guide us all to the right path.
